Ecuador Fireworks

Fireworks of course are not unique to most countries, but I witnessed and captured a religious celebration on one of the coastal towns where they had what is called a “vaca-loca” translated as crazy-cow, which consists on an individual wearing a contraption over his shoulders which has the head of a cow and it is loaded with fireworks. They light up the contraption and the individual then runs around the crowd while sparks fly all over the place and it is a symbolic way to thank their saint patron and/or to summon good luck. They also build these tall contraptions loaded with fireworks as well which are called “Castillos” or castles, which are lit and result in a spectacle for the people. As a result of this photoshoot, I was invited to participate in an international expo called "La Biennial” in Cuenca which includes the participation of artists from Europe and Latin America.
