Ecuador Quito
The capital of Ecuador is a cosmopolitan city located in the northern region of the country. Nestled in the reaches of ancient mountains and active volcanoes, Quito sits at an impressive altitude of 9300 feet above sea level, the second highest capital city in the world. A Unesco heritage site, one of five in the country, Quito, though not quite as lovely as Cuenca, is still a beautiful city with a breathtaking historic center and a vibrant food scene. With the completion of its new metro system, Quito has one of the safest undergrounds in Latin America, bright and clean, it’s a great way to transverse the entire city in just a few minutes.
Here you will find photos from all over Quito and the surrounding regions, including the volcano Cotopaxi, taken from our apartment terrace as it spews forth its clouds of soft ash. The volcano, Pichinica, and the telefrico which carries passengers to its peak. You’ll also find La Virgen del Panecillo, a 135 foot tall statue of the Virgin Mary located in historical center of Quito.
