Ecuador Beaches

Ecuador is situated on the western coast of South America, and as its name implies… on the equator. Due to its ideal global position and white sandy beaches, the beautiful coastal cities and towns of Ecuador invite a host of people from all over the country to their shores during holidays and school breaks. Much like our coastal Maine towns, coastal Ecuador thrives on the tourism the beaches attract.
Sara and I were lucky enough to live in one of these coastal cities for a year. Because the southern coast is impacted by the Humboldt current, before it turns west towards the Galapagos, the water of the southern beaches is much cooler than its northern counterparts, and leaves the region to be desert like for much of the year. That is until the seasonal rains come flooding in.
